Pearls in the Valley
———Podcast———
Pearls in the Valley is a short, faith-centered storytelling podcast built on a simple but deeply powerful truth: some of God’s greatest treasures are formed in the lowest, most challenging places. Just like a pearl begins as a tiny irritation deep inside a dark oyster shell, many of our most life-changing and transformative moments are shaped in seasons of intense pressure, confusion, or heartbreaking trials. Each episode shares real, authentic stories—some humorous, some raw and vulnerable, and some beautifully unexpected—about how God gently shapes something valuable and enduring in the valleys we walk through. With a tone of warmth, honesty, and a touch of light-hearted humor, the podcast invites listeners to pause, take a deep breath, and remember that God is quietly but faithfully working, even when life doesn’t yet look polished or perfect.
Pearls in the Valley isn’t just a collection of my stories—it’s ours. The true heart of this podcast is community and connection. I want to hear about your pearl: the moment God showed up in your life, the breakthrough you never saw coming, the encouragement that carried you through the darkest times, or the valley you once thought might take you down but instead became the place where God rebuilt and renewed you. If you have a triumphant story—whether big or small—please send it in. Your experience may be exactly the encouragement someone else needs to hear, and together, we can keep stringing these precious pearls of hope to inspire and uplift listeners everywhere.
Lottie Deno Documentary
Lottie Deno Documentary: Lottie Deno, born Carlotta Thompkins in 1844, became one of the most fascinating and enigmatic figures of the American Old West. Raised in Kentucky with a refined Southern upbringing, she was taught etiquette, culture, and—thanks to her father—a skill for card games that would eventually shape her legend. After the Civil War upended her world, Lottie ventured west, where her grace, intelligence, and uncanny gambling talent earned her a reputation as one of the most formidable poker players on the frontier. Known for her poise at the table and her ability to outplay even the roughest cowboys, she became a respected, almost mythical presence in saloons from Texas to New Mexico. Despite her unconventional path, Lottie eventually sought a quieter life, marrying Frank Thurmond and settling down as a churchgoing woman—her storied past giving way to a legacy of resilience, reinvention, and frontier lore.
Cynthia Rose is widely regarded as one of the leading historians on the life and legacy of Lottie Deno, bringing unparalleled depth, accuracy, and passion to the study of this iconic frontier figure. Through years of meticulous research, Cynthia has uncovered the stories, documents, and personal histories that reveal the real woman behind the legend. Her work has helped preserve Lottie Deno’s place in American history, offering fresh insight into the cultural landscape of the Old West and the extraordinary lives that shaped it.
